Insulin Resistance
Insulin Resistance is the inability of your body to properly handle carbohydrates and sugar. This leads to high blood levels of Glucose and Insulin. You experience this as fat gain, decreased stamina and out of control appetite.
Read on to learn more about insulin resistance, what causes this, how it affects you and what can be done to counteract it.

What is Insulin
Insulin is a hormone secreted by the pancreas. It helps the body utilize blood glucose (blood sugar) by binding with receptors on cells like a key would fit into a lock. Once the key insulin- has unlocked the door, the glucose can pass from the blood into the cell. Inside the cell, glucose is either used for energy or stored for future use as energy in the form of glycogen in the liver or muscle cells.
What is Insulin Resistance?
Insulin Resistance (IR) is a condition caused by excess insulin and sugar in the blood stream. This causes thermogenesis, the conversion of fat to heat, to be shut off completely so that the body stores sugar as fat rather than burning it and typically that fat is stored in the belly region.
Insulin Resistance is the inability of your body to properly handle carbohydrates and sugar. This leads to high blood levels of Glucose and Insulin. You experience this as fat gain, decreased stamina and out of control appetite.
Fat storage along with the Insulin and Glucose overload can lead to major health problems such as:
- Hypertension
- Type II Diabetes
- Heart Disease
- Cancer
Insulin Resistance can accelerate aging causing those who suffer from it to age quicker and take years off their lifespan.
It is important to know that fat gain due to Insulin Resistance persists regardless of how much you exercise or diet. This explains why so many fad diets and supplements fail - because they are not targeting the true cause of why you are overweight - Insulin Resistance.
So, basically - High Insulin and Glucose tells your brain to eat, eat, eat while the high Insulin levels tell your body to store, store, store what you eat as fat. It’s a metabolic nightmare!
How do we take what we know about Insulin Resistance and deal with the problem? By taking SynexDiet™ - The next generation of Fat Burning Weight Management Dietary Supplement.
What is Syndrome X?
Syndrome X is a cluster of risk factors for heart disease associated with Insulin Resistance. It has become widely reported in the news as a cause of obesity, heart disease and cancer. These risk factors include: hypertriglyceridemia (high blood lipid), low HDL-cholesterol, hyperinsulinemia (high blood insulin), often hyperglycemia (high blood glucose), and hypertension (high blood pressure) are also present.
Risk factors for Insulin Resistance and Syndrome-X include:
- Obesity, particularly abdominal obesity
- Family history of diabetes
- Gestaitional diabetes
- Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
Why is Insulin Resistance in the news?
More and more people in the U.S. are becoming obese, due to a combination of physical inactivity, overeating, and Insulin Resistance. Overeating particularly sweet or sugary foods and drinks and and physical inactivity aggravate Insulin Resistance. Also, people who are insulin resistant typically have an imbalance in their blood lipids (blood fat). They have an increased level of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol (blood fat) and a decreased level of HDL (good) cholesterol. Imbalances in triglycerides and HDL cholesterol increase the risk for heart disease. These findings have heightened awareness of Insulin Resistance and its impact on health.
Who has Insulin Resistance?
Almost all overweight and obese individuals - particularly those with abdominal obesity. Abdominal obesity has incorrectly been linked with excess cortisol in the body - this is not true! Abdominal obesity is truly a symptom of Insulin Resistance rather than excess cortisol levels. Insulin Resistance can also be found in individuals with Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (diabetes) and many people with hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. These diseases and conditions are predominantly found in countries with diets high in hydrogenated-trans fats and high sugar consumption particularly man made hydrogenated sugars like high fructose corn syrup and man made fats like hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soy oils. These diseases and conditions are among the leading contributors to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Also, about 40-45% of the healthy population may be insulin resistant yet have no symptoms other than weight gain.
What causes Insulin Resistance?
No one knows for sure. Some scientists think a defect in specific genes may cause Insulin Resistance and type 2 diabetes. Although researchers continue to debate and investigate the cause, I think the current epidemic is caused by three factors: our modern overprocessed adulterated foods, lack of exercise and stress. What we do know is that Insulin Resistance is aggravated by a low fat diet high sugar diet, hydrogenated fats and oils, obesity and physical inactivity. SynexDiet™ was created to offset the effects of a bad diet, decrease sugar and carbohydrate cravings, increase energy and elevate your mood so that you feel better. Most people do not exercise because they don't have the energy. SynexDiet™ boosts your energy making you more prone to exercise.
What is the best diet for people with this condition?
Eating a balanced diet low in sugar and processed sugars particularly HFS (high fructose corn syrup) and hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated fats such as cottonseed and soy oils and moderately high in healthy Omega 3 fats. Research indicates that low fat diets and diets high in Trans/Hydrogenated Fats may aggravate the effect of Insulin Resistance on blood lipids. Because obesity can aggravate Insulin Resistance it is also beneficial to lose weight and maintain an appropriate body weight. To maintain an appropriate weight, regulate caloric intake and maintain a physically active lifestyle and take SynexDiet™.
SynexDiet™ and the treatment of Insulin Resistance
The primary treatment of Insulin Resistance usually involves changes in diet and lifestyle. The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recommends losing excess weight, getting regular amounts of moderate intensity physical activity, and increasing dietary fiber to lower blood insulin levels and increase the body's sensitivity to it. Easy for them to say, but as I have already pointed out if you are Insulin Resistant all the fiber and dieting in the world won’t help you lose weight. That’s why I developed SynexDiet™ - to help people with Insulin Resistance balance blood sugar levels and rid the body of the weight gain that results from Insulin Resistance - particularly the weight gain around the abdominal area.
